Volunteers

Volunteers support all parts of the sport system across Australia, from sustaining community grassroots sport through to supporting elite level sport, and the successful staging of major events such as the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Volunteers perform many critical roles in sport including serving as coaches, officials, team managers, administrators, board and committee members; with many individuals filling multiple roles.

The ACDS value our volunteers highly and recognise them as one our sport’s greatest assets.

Volunteers are people who freely give their time to an activity without the expectation of getting paid. Without Volunteers grass roots sports cannot run . Volunteering can benefit you in both mental and physical health. Volunteering helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety. The social contact aspect of helping and working with others can have a profound effect on your overall psychological well-being.

You may not have horse skills but appreciate being out and about, you may have a historical bent or you enjoy building stuff. In the ACDS we can help train you if you wish to learn more about the sport or participate at different levels. All help is greatly appreciated!

How to get started

There are many ways to get started.

Look for a local club. Visit our Club section on this website to find out where your nearest clubs are. Contact details for club secretaries are available here. Most clubs have websites which list the dates and locations of their events. Or you can look in the ACDS Calendar or on our Facebook page.

Email us: volunteers@acds.com.au

Or you can contact the ACDS Secretary. They will be able to put you in touch with suitable event organisers and keep your name and contact details on file for future events.

Please complete the Volunteers form and return to the Federal Secretary.
