27th July, 2018.
Notice to Members
Federal Council has introduced a new by-law in relation to the definition of an Associate member as follows:
“An office bearer being either the President, Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer of a State Branch or Local Club must be 18 years or older and be either a Single Member, be part of a Family Membership, be an Associate Member or an Honorary Life Member, subject to compliance with the State Branch or Local Club Rules”.
Purpose of By-Law
Federal Council is aware that it is becoming more difficult for State Branches and Clubs to find people who are willing to act as President, Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer.
Following a discussion at Federal Council, it was agreed that a by-law be introduced to allow a person who is an Associate Member or an Honorary Life Member to hold a position as an office bearer, subject to compliance with State Branch or Club Rules.
Previously the only persons who were able to act as office bearers were Single Members or Family Members.
It is important that State Branches or Clubs who wish make use of this new By-Law check their own Rules to ensure their Rules do not state something contrary to this By-Law. If their Rules are contradictory, the State Branch or Club will need to amend their Rules first.
For enquiries or clarification of the above, please contact the Federal Secretary.

It is with sadness that I advise the passing of ACDS Life Member Janet Gilmour.
Janet was Federal Secretary of the Society from 1982 until 1994, a remarkable 12 year commitment, and Editor of the Journal for many years. Together with her husband Neil (Federal President 1981-84), Janet freely contributed an enormous amount of time, energy and passion to the development and operation of the ACDS.
On behalf of members I would like to gratefully acknowledge that very significant contribution, and express my deepest condolences to Janet’s family.

It is with sadness that we advise the passing of Dr Peter Anderson; Peter was a past Federal President (1980/81) of the Australian Driving Society, an enthusiastic supporter and competitor in the early days of Combined Driving, and one of our earliest regular overseas competitors, driving for several seasons in the UK.
On behalf of the ACDS, we extend our sincerest condolences to Peter’s wife Jill.

2017 Federal Conference and AGM at Sovereign Hill
I would like to clarify a question that has been raised in regard to entry to Sovereign Hill for those members attending the Federal Conference and/or AGM.
There is no entry fee payable to Sovereign Hill` for those attending. Entry is complimentary as the ACDS has booked part of the facility for the Conference and AGM.
However there is a Conference Fee payable to the ACDS for those attending the Conference to partially cover some costs being incurred by the ACDS. It would be greatly appreciated by the organisers if members who plan to attend would pre-book so that the ACDS can provide a list of persons who are attending to the front gate at Sovereign Hill as this will make entry easier for all involved. Booking forms have been sent to all members and there is a copy on the Federal website.
Finally, for those members who require accommodation and have not yet booked, the hotel style accommodation described on the booking form is fully booked so the organisers will need to allocate any further requests to book the motel rooms to the next level down which is the Canadian Barracks and we will refund any difference in price accordingly.

2017 FEDERAL CONFERENCE AT SOVEREIGN HILL
Reminder that all booking forms must be received by the Federal Treasurer by Friday 9 June 2017. We are required to provide final numbers for accommodation and meals the next day to Sovereign Hill. We will only accept bookings that are accompanied by payment. Keep in mind that Australia Post can take more than one week to deliver mail so please act now and send you forms. Also, hotel accommodation is almost full so we may need to allot you barracks accommodation if your booking form is received next week (and refund any monies if necessary).
